I grew up in Maine and moved to Alaska after finishing graduate school in NYC. I had three careers while living in Alaska, including owning a tea house and gift shop. I sold that business and retired at an early age before moving back to Maine. After being retired nearly 8 years, I decided it was time to open another store and create a space full of treasures from New England.
Whimsical ME was just an idea on Oct. 1 and by November 8, I was open for business.
More than 90 percent of our products are from Maine. We sell Sea Bags, made on the waterfront in Portland; Seawicks Candles, made on the waterfront in Boothbay Harbor; and pillows, cosmetic bags and tea towels from Erin Flett, made on the river in Westbrook. We also have pottery, jewelry, cards, wall art, specialty foods, and dog treats and toys made in Maine. Two of our featured artists live right here in Saco and two others are from OOB and Scarborough. We love local artists!
We have a few things from the other New England states, including Andy’s Dandies dog treats from Vermont; and whimsical cutting boards from New Hampshire Bowl and Board in Contoocook.
Our theme is beachy/nautical and we are obsessed with whales and anchors. Visit us anytime you need a special gift for a special someone. We’d love to meet you.
